Postponement of Tokyo Olympic 2020 due to COVID-19 outbreak

In regard to the participation , organization and other burning issues of the Tokyo Olympic 2020 due to COVID -19 pandemic , today IOC President Mr. Thomas Bach & IOC team have had meeting with NOCs Presidents,Continental Presidents & Organizing Committee  through Video Conference.  The main agenda of the conference is to discuss the constantly changing environment with regard to the COVID -19 and postponment of Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

During the video conference with President of NOC Nepal Hon'ble Jeevan Ram Shrestha & other participants the IOC President & IOC Team discussed the following:

a)   After consultation with Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Abe Shnizo and  World Health Organization ( WHO), the Executive Board of IOC had decided to postpone the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 until next year.

b)   The new dates of the Tokyo Olympic Games will be decided  after consulting  with IOC, NOCs, IFs, IPC and Organizing Committee.  

c)    Since the Olympic Flame has already reached the Tokyo, it will be remained there till  the Olympic Games  in the name of " Tokyo Olympic Games 2020".

d)   The postponement of the Olympic Games 2020 is the first time in the Olympic History.

e)   The decision made by EB of IOC to postpone the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 until next year  has been welcomed and supported by the  International Paralympic Committee (IPC), NOCs, and the leaders of G-20.

f)     In regard to the Tokyo Olympic athlete Scholarship, it will be continued till the year 2021.

g)   As per the new date of the Tokyo Olympic Games, the remaining Olympic Qualification Championships and the deadline to submit the application for the accreditation will be rescheduled.

h)   The Next Video Conference with NOCs will be held on next month ( April).
