  • It was the 1st ever Olympic Games held in South America.
  • The first Olympic Games were held in 776 in Olympia (Greek) and the first Olympic Games of the modern era in 1896 in Athens (Greek).
  • 11544 athletes from 207 different countries took part in RIO Olympics 2016.
  • 306 competitions in 42 different sports were held in 17 days.
  • The slogan of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janerio is Viva sua paixão (Live your passion).
  • 130 thousand people have worked directly on RIO 2016 to make it successful.
  • 27 world records and 91 Olympic records were broken in Rio Olympics 2016

  • Mr. Sirish Gurung(Swimming) and Ms.Saraswati Bhattrai(Athletics) broke their own National Records from 100m freestyle with time of 57.76sec and from 1500m with time of 4:33.94 min respectively. 
  • USA won the most medals in this Olympic with total of 121 medals with China being second with 70 medals.
