September 5, 2025

Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) President Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Vice President Mr. Chaturananda Rajbaidya, and Secretary General Mr. Rajiv Shrestha held a meeting today with representatives from PATH and Health Concern to discuss the progress of the pilot project jointly initiated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The meeting was attended by Ms. Sanju Gautam from PATH and Mr. Krishna Prasad Dhakal from Health Concern. Under this initiative, PATH has been entrusted to coordinate the project “Sports and Health” in collaboration with NOC, while Health Concern Organization is implementing the program after being selected through a competitive bidding process. The project is funded by IOC and WHO.

The first phase of the project has been awarded to five countries worldwide: Vietnam, Peru, Tanzania, Nepal, and Ghana. In Nepal, the Bagmati Province Ministry of Sports and Health has identified four districts—Chitwan, Lalitpur, Makwanpur, and Nuwakot—for implementation. The project’s primary objective is to promote health through sports, focusing on community and government schools where the presence of nursing staff is mandatory.

For the second phase, only Nepal and Vietnam have been chosen, underscoring the strong progress made in the initial stage. An IOC supervisory team is scheduled to visit Nepal in the second week of December to monitor and evaluate the implementation.
