Jeevan Ram Shrestha unanimously elected president of Nepal Ski Association

The third general assembly of Nepal Ski Association on Tuesday unanimously elected Jeevan Ram Shrestha as its president. This is the third time Shrestha has been elected to the post.
The general assembly held at Nepal Olympic Committee also approved a list of 10-member working committee. Rajubabu Shrestha and Ishwari Paudel are the vice presidents of the committee while Bijay Shrestha was unanimously elected as the general secretary. Likewise, Basanta Raj Karki and JItendra Shrestha were elected to the posts of secretary and treasurer respectively.
Other elected members of the committee are Shanta Maya Pariyar, Yam Bahadur Bam, Ram Prasad Gurung, and Arjun Maharjan.
The working committee later nominated three vice including Raja Shakya, Shambhu Lama and Madhav Aryal.
The general assembly also approved the budget of the association and also decided to organize national ski championship every year.
The assembly also gave a go ahead to the proposed grass ski resort in Kakani.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the general assembly, chairman of the Parliament’s Finance Committee Prakash Jwala said that sports have been a unifying factor of the nation.
“Sports is the symbol of health, discipline, nation-building and prosperity,” said Jwala, adding that ski would play an important role in development of sports-tourism.
“The upcoming 13th South Asian Games will help in enhancing the reputation of Nepal,” added Jwala.
President of Nepal Ski Association as well as Nepal Olympic Committee, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, said that tourism and ski have a deep relationship.
“There is a different satisfaction in skiing in the country where there is Mt Everest. The significance of ski in Himalayan nation is related to tourism,” said Shrestha.
“I have become very optimistic that we will be able to develop a ski resort in the near future,” added Shrestha, reminding that Nepal successfully organized national ski championship for the first time in last January.
President Shrestha said that tourists could be attracted even in the offseason with the help of ski.
“Tourism gets a boost when it is combined with ski,” he added.
National Sports Council’s Vice President Lama Tendi Sherpa, who is also the general secretary of Nepal Olympic Committee, said that ski was the game that helped Nepal get a place in the Winter Olympics.
NOC’s Joint-Genera Secretary Rajiv Shrestha, member Nilendra Shrestha and NSC member Rajendra Shrestha expressed their views during the function.
