Nepal had a winning start in 1st South Asian Female Basketball Championship held in Dashrat Stadium Indoor Coveredhall, Tripurashor. Nepal won the first game of their Round Robin League with Bangladesh by 12-26 scores. The highest scorer from Nepali team was Sneha Shrestha with 25 points and from Bangladesh Natasha got 8 score.
Nepal lead all four quarters, the final scores was 20-10, 20-03, 31-04 and 21-09 in each quarter respectively.
Sri Lanka also won their match against Maldives with points 105-39. Silva Kumarin form Sri Lanka was the leading scorer of that match with 25 points on her name and from Maldives Raipa Ibralin got 6 points.
The opening ceremony of the event was inaugurated by President of Nepal Olympic Committee Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha. The event was chaired by Mr. Lama Tendi Sherpa(President of Nepal Basketball Association and Secretary General of NOC), In the event President of South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Mr. Ahmed Hafeez, Member secretary of National Sports Council Mr Keshab Kumar Bista, Vice President of NOC Mr. Dhirendra Pradhan,Vice President of NOC Mrs.Jyoti Rana, Deputy Secretary General of NOC Rajiv Shrestha and member of NOC Mr. Samim Miya Ansari were also present. President Shrestha spoke about how the Basketball team had thier games cancelled in the 12th South Asian Game due to some technical problem and now this event will be a platform to show their skills.He also added that these games will bring better relationship between South Asian Countries. The event was organized by Nepal Basketball Association where 5 countries have participated. Next game according to the tie-sheet is on Wednesday where Bhutan will face Sri Lanka and Maldives will face Nepal. The event will officially end in April 2 Saturday.
